LG is one of the biggest Korean companies and one of the best electronic maker and developer in the world. This is a well know fact. We all remember those Goldstar CRT TVS that where on the market until the late 90’s and we know there for that they were one of the best you can buy, being a though competion for any other brands like Sony, JVC, Philips, Samsung etc.
In this strong tradition, the LG 42LW550T is not only a top competitor for any other brands but a good purchase for any customer in search for a TV.
Intriguingly, the LW550T opts for passive 3D technology based on polarized glasses, rather than the active-shutter systems used by its rivals. This means that the glasses don’t need batteries, are comfortable (they are light and lack moving parts) and most importantly, they’re cheap – so cheap that LG bundles seven pairs with this TV for free.
The LG’s brightness and contrast levels are fair and its motion-processing is effective but a little crude next to the best: while some TVs glide trough long horizontal camera pans, the 42LW550T can seem uncertain, particularly if it’s upscaling video at the time. It’s no great shakes sonically either, with a shrillness that seems at odds with its composure in 3D.
LG’s Smart TV hub is well equipped, looks the part and has an equally elegant user interface. Coupled with its compelling 3D value, this is a fine choice for those flush with family and friends.
